The traditional music program at St. John’s Church is an integral part of the worship life of the congregation. It seeks to express the love and glory of God and enhance the worship experience through inspiring expressions of praise.
In keeping with the rich tradition of musical excellence as a witness of Christ’s redeeming love , each person who participates in the music ministry is viewed as lay music minister, called of God to use ones gift to lead the congregation in both spiritual and musical growth.
The traditional music ministry also makes a special contribution to the spiritual life beyond the walls of the sanctuary striving to enrich the lives of the broader Seaford community through the Chancel Choir, “Rings of Fire” hand bells and sacred ensembles inspired to advance the message of God’s redeeming love. We are always looking for new persons who are called to any areas of the St. John’s music ministry. Please call me if you have questions or wish to participate.
Soli Deo Gloria,
Douglas Rhodes, Director of Music and Organist
The Chancel Choir: This group rehearses every Thursday at 7:15 p.m. and every Sunday morning from 9:00 to 10:00. This dedicated group of volunteer music ministers aid in leading the St. John’s congregation in weekly praise and thanksgiving to our risen Lord.
RINGS OF FIRE HANDBELLS
“Rings of Fire” Handbells rehearses on Thursday from 6:00pm to 7:15pm . It is comprised of five octaves of handbells and five octaves of hand chimes. The Rings of Fire preforms as a prelude to worship several times per year, as well as giving outside concerts . We make it a point to be part of the Ocean City Handbell Festival in March each year, ringing up to a 3 ½ concert level.
During the liturgical year we encourage members of the ministry to praise God through solos, duets, trios, quartets, both in choral and handbell formats. We also invite outside groups, such as brass ensembles, pianists, instrumentalists and vocalists to participate.
