Food Closet History
In the 1960’s members of the United Methodist Women at St. John’s felt moved by God to reach out to others in need. Over the years, a food closet evolved, shelving was placed, and a freezer was purchased. The food closet in it’s early years began as a local church mission staffed by St. John’s members. Today the Seaford Community Food Closet operates with a far more developed volunteer base comprised of many partner churches, individuals, faith-based organizations, businesses and non-profit organizations.
The food closet is housed within St. John’s United Methodist Church, located at Pine and Poplar Street in Seaford, Delaware (2 Blocks north of High Street).
A cooperative Christ-centered ministry… “Providing emergency food relief to individuals and families encountering hardship in the greater Seaford area.”
The Seaford Community Food Closet is funded solely through food and monetary donations and is maintained 100% by volunteers.
