Love FULLY – Change Lives – Through Christ

St. John’s United Methodist Church in Seaford is one church in two locations; the main campus in the heart of Seaford and St. John’s Chapel, another campus opened at Cannon in July 2014, which is located in a rural setting between Seaford and Bridgeville.
We are a faith community that values authentic relationships with Jesus, one another, the community in Seaford and the entire world.
We are a faith community that values Spirit-filled worship and a lifestyle of service and mission.
We are a faith community that values a life-long experience of growth and transformation as disciples of Jesus.
We are a faith community that values learning experiences for young children and families, and extend our mission of early childhood Christian education through St. John’s UMC Preschool.

Rev. Linda Pevey

Interim Pastor

Linda recently retired from full time pastoral ministry, although she continues to serve the church. Linda is a passionate, unapologetic supporter of the church, but that hasn’t always been the case. She grew up going to church, but left as a teenager. She didn’t return until more than 15 years later after she met her husband, Barry. It was his influence and example that led her back. Even so, years went by as she sat in the pew and watched. But one day, God grabbed hold of her, and her life has never been the same. She has been on an exciting and transformational journey with God ever since!

In her spare time, Linda loves to be outside. She sees God’s hand everywhere in the beauty and majesty of the great outdoors. She loves to grow things: flowers, vegetables, you name it! She enjoys running and hiking, kayaking and boating on the local waterways, and riding her bicycle on the rural backroads near her home. She also loves to travel with her husband and experience new places with him.

Linda served as Lead Pastor at Bethesda United Methodist Church in Preston, MD, from 2016 until her retirement in 2021. Prior to that, she served for five years as the Associate Pastor at Christ UMC in Salisbury, MD, where she developed and led a thriving church-wide small group ministry in which over 80 percent of the adult congregation participated.

Linda holds a Master of Divinity degree with an emphasis in Church Renewal from United Theological Seminary in Dayton, Ohio. She lives with her husband in Seaford, Delaware. She plans to do more writing now that she has more time.

Jeff James

Mr. Jeff James

Campus Minister

I am the lay minister of St. John’s Chapel in Cannon.  I am a Sussex County native and have served in a variety of churches and denominations across the Delmarva Peninsula.  I believe in Christians working together sharing the love of Christ in relationship with Jesus, one another, and the community.  I also serve in the ministries of Unified Seaford and Love In the Name of Christ (Love INC) of Mid-Delmarva.

Rae Murphy

Rae Murphy

Preschool Director

Rae and her husband, Mike, live in Mardela Springs, MD and are raising three sons.  She enjoys traveling with her family, going to the beach, photography and time with her Great Danes.

Through her service at St. John’s, Rae hopes to reach families where they are in their personal relationships with Christ.  It is her hope that the children in her care, and their parents, leave St. John’s with a stronger, closer relationship with God, bridged by the love and care their family receives through the preschool program.
